A: No. Allow me to explain...

Having too much jewelry is impossible; it’s what makes an outfit go from ordinary to extraordinary. Adding a few custom pieces of jewelry creates interest and movement to an outfit, especially in the era of capsule closets. A capsule closet consists of a few essential elements that are easily mixed and matched, so using jewelry, it is easy to take a day outfit to a night outfit.

For day looks, thinner necklaces and rings create a put-together look with minimal effort, and the same outfit can go from day to night by exchanging the lighter jewelry for a statement piece. A combination of both basic and statement jewelry is a must for anyone interested in fashion, and the best thing about jewelry is that it takes up very little space.

When creating a well-rounded collection of jewelry, I always think about what I have and what I may need in the future. My closet mainly consists of black, gray, and white, so I know that adding jewelry is the one way to create interest in my outfits. Having necklaces of multiple lengths allows for stacking, and having multiple rings draws the eye to a fresh manicure. Everything has a purpose.

For summer, a nice beaded barrette is perfect for dressing up my up-do when attending events such as weddings or get-togethers, and having the option to pick between a couple to match my outfit is even better. Multiple statement pieces like chunky necklaces and ornate rings are also a must because what looks good with one outfit may completely ruin another, so the more, the merrier.

Jewelry is also a great conversation starter for those who are more introverted such as myself. When someone asks me about my jewelry, especially someone I’ve wanted to talk to, I love sharing the story about finding my favorite necklace.

I was driving down to Oregon from Washington and had to stop in a small town to get gas and some food because I had missed the exit to my usual top-off point. When I was walking around the town to stretch my legs, I dropped into this cute little shop on the corner. The shop was full of little trinkets. As I left the shop, not intending to buy anything, a small silver necklace caught my eye. The necklace was perfect, not too short but not long enough for it to hide in my shirt. It complimented my skin tone perfectly, and while it was thin, I could see it becoming my everyday wear. When I remember that shop, I never would have guessed to find something so perfect in the shop, but I am happy I did.

Jewelry is so much more than just an accessory to accentuate an outfit. Jewelry is something that can hold memories and open you up to new connections with people, so there is no such thing as too much jewelry.
